I can help you if you have difficulties sleeping. My clinic welcomes enquiries from the areas of Amersham, Chesham and Berkhamsted and Chorleywood
Although many sleep problems are temporary, there are many people who are plagued for months and even years by restless nights. Many take sleep for granted but more than one in four people find sleeping difficult and lack of a good night's sleep can lead to exhaustion, irritability and difficulty concentrating the following day.
Often, sleeping problems can be a reflection of worries and stresses occuring during the day and these can also manifest themselves as nightmares or night terrors. It's also quite a lonely place to be when it feels like everyone else is asleep!
All too common is the scenario where you've had a long, hard day and you need a good, restful night's sleep. You lie in bed and close your eyes but your mind is working overtime. The pressure you put on yourself to get to sleep increases as you become more aware of the night time hours ticking away.
Jenny, 30, overcame her long-time insomnia in just six sessions of The Thrive Programme. Here's her story...
Main causes of sleeping problems
For the many people who consult me for sleeping problems, it is caused by habitual ways of thinking errors that cause big problems when it comes to trying to sleep. These include:
• Worrying, brooding or ruminating during the day, by the time bedtime comes you feel anxious and burdened by the things you've carried around in your head during the day.
• The fear and dread of not being able to sleep is a big contributory factor, alongside the extra worry of how hard it will be to function the next day. The more you worry about not sleeping, the bigger your belief becomes that you won't sleep - often resulting in a self fulfilling prophesy.
• Lying in bed and over-thinking events from the previous day, what you need to do tomorrow or in the future. Over-planning leads to an over-active mind which leads to poor sleep.
The good news is that with the right treatment, the problem can be easily resolved. It doesn't matter how long you've suffered from it for or how severe the problem is.
Sue, 42, suffered from chronic insomnia...
"Having suffered from insomnia for many years I finally got to the point that I had to do something about it. Meeting Cara and working through the Thrive book has cured me of my sleepless nights, made me more confident, less self-critical and much more of a positive person. The workbook is so well written and easy to follow – it all made perfect sense. Working through the book with Cara was so helpful and I learnt a lot about myself in just four sessions. Cara was lovely, easy to talk to and so understanding. Thank you"
Sam, 33 treated for insomnia and night time anxiety...
"When I came to see Cara for the first time I was suffering from insomnia and major night-time anxiety. I also had various compulsive behaviours that I felt were out of control. Even after the first session I already felt a lot better and hopeful for the first time in a long while that I would be able to overcome the problems I was having. And I did. Six sessions later and I felt like a different person. Really amazing. I can’t recommend Cara highly enough"
The Thrive Programme - effective help for insomnia and sleeping problems in Rickmansworth, Aylesbury and via Skype
I help people to overcome their sleeping problems using The Thrive Programme. It is a highly effective six-session programme designed to empower clients by changing and improving the way they think and feel about themselves and their lives. As mentioned above, when people have sleeping problems, it is nearly always the result of simple thinking errors causing the problem....even though it may not seem that way when you feel overwhelmed by the problem.
The Thrive Programme teaches you to understand yourself: your beliefs and your thinking styles that are causing the problem. Once you have that insight, it can be very easy to think differently, change old patterns of behaviour, feel back in control....and get some sleep! Another major benefit of the programme is that although people initially use Thrive to get rid of their insomnia, they always finish the programme with much better self esteem and feel calmer in life generally.
