Main causes of sleeping problems
For the many people who consult me for sleeping problems, it is caused by habitual ways of thinking errors that cause big problems when it comes to trying to sleep. These include:
• Worrying, brooding or ruminating during the day, by the time bedtime comes you feel anxious and burdened by the things you’ve carried around in your head during the day.
• The fear and dread of not being able to sleep is a big contributory factor, alongside the extra worry of how hard it will be to function the next day. The more you worry about not sleeping, the bigger your belief becomes that you won’t sleep – often resulting in a self fulfilling prophesy.
• Lying in bed and over-thinking events from the previous day, what you need to do tomorrow or in the future. Over-planning leads to an over-active mind which leads to poor sleep.
The good news is that with the right treatment, the problem can be easily resolved. It doesn’t matter how long you’ve suffered from it for or how severe the problem is.
